Do you want change, or will you stay with the status quo?
The citizens of Ward 13 have said loud and clear that they want their voices heard in City Hall. Below are the major issues my constituents have voiced so far and where I stand on them. Below is my opening statement on why I am running, and I highlight the choices between sticking with the "status quo" or choosing the change that is needed in this election.
This City Council, including Ward 13's incumbent Diane Colley-Urquhart, continues to say they have taxes in check to save you money, yet every year the taxes increase. This has to stop! It's hurting residential property owners, businesses and renters who get those increases passed down to them. What is the the track record of Ward 13's incumbent with taxes? Learn how how I will approach each budget discussion.
Since the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis in May of 2020, calls have gone out to defund the police and in some cases abolish the police. City Council held 3 days of open meetings listening to accounts of police brutality and how systemic racism is rampant throughout the Calgary Police Service. What should be done going forward? Listen to the following sound clip for my thoughts on this important issue.
What started out as a $4.5B expansion of the LRT covering 47 kms, it has now morphed into a $5B project that covers half the distance. Even worse, the incumbent Diane Colley-Urquhart, along with the other City Councillors want to do more studying on the feasibility, ridership and cost before they agree to proceed that will continue to add to the timeline and costs. How much more is this going to cost? You won't get a straight answer from this City Council or the incumbent. You can hear my thoughts on this topic in the sound clip below.
Not only does Calgary have major issues around constantly increased taxes, it has a bigger issue on increased size of City Administration and the rising costs of doing the city's business. There are a lot of efficiencies that can happen within Administration that would cut costs, improve service and reduce errors. Listen to the sound clip below to hear my thoughts on this important issue.
Residents of every community benefit from the excellent work that the Community Associations do each year and the City relies on the Community Associations to be an advocate between the citizens and City Hall. I believe City Hall can do more to support them. Listen to the sound clip below to hear my thoughts on this important issue.
Currently Ward 13 only has 2 dog parks and as of October 2021, it will have fewer dog parks than any other Ward in the City based on the realignment of Ward boundaries and that needs to change. Diane Colley-Urquhart has not followed through on her promise to continue to work on this issue. Listen to the sound clip below to hear my thoughts on this important issue.
There are many more issues associated within each community of Ward 13. As we move through the journey together after the election, it is my belief that through effective leadership, clear communications between the two of us and some good old fashion action on my part; we can start to make some meaningful changes.
Thank you for your support during the campaign. I look forward to working with you over the next four years.
